The YES Youth Mentoring Program is working with youth mandated to the Spring Mountain Youth Camp. Our Program is designed to support underrepresented minority youth, professional mentors, and prospective participants. Our purpose is to enrich the personal and professional lives of mentees and mentors as they work together to achieve mutually agreed-upon goals.
The YES Youth Mentorship Program is the first formal Culturally Responsive Program in Nevada which serves culturally based mentorship to mentees from underrepresented backgrounds.
Why our mentors and mentees say YES to our program and our Youth.
Screen prospective mentors to determine whether they have the time, commitment, and personal qualities to be a safe and effective mentor and screen prospective mentees, and their parents or guardians, about whether they have the time, commitment, and desire to be effectively mentored.
Train prospective mentors, mentees, and mentees’ parents (or legal guardians or responsible adult) in the basic knowledge, attitudes, and skills needed to build an effective and safe mentoring relationship using culturally appropriate language and tools.
Train prospective Match mentors and mentees and initiate the mentoring relationship using strategies likely to increase the odds that mentoring relationships will endure and be effective.
Monitor mentoring relationship milestones and child safety; and support matches through providing ongoing advice, problem-solving, training, and access to resources for the duration of each relationship.
Facilitate bringing the match to closure in a way that affirms the contributions of the mentor and mentee and offers them the opportunity to prepare for the closure and assess the experience.
The research specifies that culturally responsive philosophy uses the social knowledge, prior experiences, frames of reference, and performance methods of ethnically diverse youths to make learning encounters more relevant and effective for the mentee (Gay, 2013).
The YES Youth Mentoring Program will carefully screen, trained, and match qualified personnel with youth based on gender and their preferences on various criteria such as interests in life, sports, the arts, music, and other leisure activities.
A vital aspect of the YES Mentoring Program is competent mentors, mentees, and mentees' parents (or legal guardians or responsible adults) in the necessary knowledge, attitudes, and skills needed to build an effective and safe mentoring relationship culturally appropriate language and tools.
Our Youth are dying at an alarming rate, we need your help. TTM Movements is about saving lives one story at a time. We don't have time to wait on the Government, Schools or the Church. We need to act and now is the time. GET INVOLVED IN THE MOVEMENT and SAVE a LIFE.
We organize a variety of events to create an outlet, an awareness, and a call for action. This is Toe Tag Monologues(TTM).
TTM was the brainchild of retired Las Vegas, Nevada Police Officer Byron Stringer. After serving Las Vegas, for over 25 years as a Police officer, he said "we have to do better. Our Youth are dying, and that doesn't need to be, we can make a difference, tell a story, and save a life." This is when Mr. Stringer went to work writing the TTM's that have helped so many youths in Las Vegas remove their TOE TAGS. TTM has made an impact on the community and has sparked a movement. TTMMOVEMENT is about saving our youth and setting them up for success, so they can say YES to Life, Hope, and a Future that does not include, jail, substance abuse, and or a Toe Tags.
Say YES to our YOUTH, by supporting YES our new YOUTH MENTORING PROGRAM. Since TTM has started we noticed that once the kids opened up about their issues, they needed more support than a TTM performance could give. To fill in the gaps TTM started a quasi mentoring program with the help of business and community leaders in the Las Vegas Area. This was helpful but not enough, our youth needed and deserved more. This obvious need and deserving more is what birthed the YES-Youth Mentoring Program. "We needed to stay connected with these youth beyond, a few weeks and months. We needed to say YES to them, we needed for them to say YES to themselves and the Community to say YES to them having a future and hope for more than a TOE TAG. We needed to walk with them and teach them how to say YES, to Leadership, Community, Responsibility, and Education. We need you to say YES as well because if don't our youth will continue to die. Will you say YES to our Youth with us?"
We need you to become a friend of the movement. We need donations, volunteers, and opportunities for our youth to grow and thrive. We need your help, commitment, and lasting support, we need you to say YES to our youth, it is a matter of life and death for them today and for all of us tomorrow. The youth are our future, if we won't say Yes to them today, it will be a no for us tomorrow. Say YES to our youth to help them Excell and Succeed, by becoming a friend of the movemet.
Toe Tag Monologues are written and directed by retired Police Officer R. Byron Stringer, where he has been putting on events throughout the country since 2007.
Vision Theatrical Foundation is a community outreach program that produces Toe Tag Monologues targeting our nations youth and ultimately saving lives.
